Race for the Cure is Komen Italia’s signature event, the largest event for the fight against breast cancer in Italy and worldwide.
The event is characterised by a major village which hosts activities dedicated to health, to sport and to well-being within the which is is the Village of Health, unique international centre offering free specialist consultations, and the traditional and exciting 5 km run and 2 km walk.
In 2000, the first Race for the Cure took place in Rome at the Circus Maximus; since then, the number of participants has grown year on year. Today, the Race for the Cure in Rome is the most popular Race of its kind in the world.
The stars of the Race for the Cure are the Women in Pink, women who have battled breast cancer. A special area has been set aside for them to register, collect their race pack containing a T-shirt, a cap and a pink race number, and to meet up and share their feelings and experiences.
Their inspiring stories have brought about a shift in how the disease is approached and have been a source of encouragement to all the women who receive this diagnosis every year. Race for the Cure takes place in Rome, Bari, Bologna and Brescia, with over 115,000 people taking part.
The event’s patron, practically since its inception, has been the actress Maria Grazia Cucinotta, who generously lends her face and voice to the many initiatives promoting the event, alongside the spokesperson for “Donne in Rosa”, the actress Rosanna Banfi.
